Preparing for Laser (BBL, MOXI & HALO)
Sciton laser treatments such as BBL HERO, MOXI, and HALO work best on skin that has been protected from the sun. A few weeks of preparation makes your treatment safer and more effective. These are general tips; your provider will tailor instructions to you.
In the weeks before
- Avoid sun exposure and do not use self-tanner for about two to four weeks before your appointment.
- Do not arrive with an active tan or a sunburn, as treating tanned skin is not recommended.
- If your provider advises it, pause retinoids and other strong actives a few days beforehand.
- Wear a broad-spectrum SPF daily in the lead-up to your treatment.
On the day
- Arrive with clean skin and no makeup, lotion, or sunscreen on the treatment area.
- Let your provider know about any cold sore history or recent skincare changes.
- Tell your provider about all medications and supplements, including anything that increases sun sensitivity.
- Plan for a little downtime depending on the treatment, and ask what to expect for your skin type.
Do
- Protect your skin from the sun and skip self-tanner for two to four weeks beforehand.
- Arrive with clean, product-free skin on the treatment area.
- Use a daily broad-spectrum SPF in the weeks leading up to your appointment.
- Follow the specific pre-treatment instructions your provider gives you.
Don’t
- Do not come in with an active tan, recent sunburn, or fresh self-tanner.
- Do not stop prescription medications on your own; check with your prescribing doctor.
- Do not apply makeup, lotion, or sunscreen to the area right before your appointment.
This is general guidance. Always follow the specific pre- and post-treatment instructions your UDERMA provider gives you for your treatment and skin.
