Preparing for RF Microneedling
Radiofrequency microneedling treatments like Morpheus8 and EXION respond best to calm, well-prepared skin. A little prep up front leads to a smoother experience and recovery. These are general tips; your provider will tailor instructions to you.
In the days before
- If your provider advises it, pause retinoids and other strong active ingredients for several days beforehand.
- Avoid sun exposure and do not arrive with an active tan or sunburn.
- Stay hydrated and keep your skin barrier calm in the days leading up to your appointment.
- Tell your provider about any cold sore history so a preventive plan can be considered if appropriate.
On the day
- Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area.
- Let your provider know about all medications, supplements, and recent treatments.
- Plan for some downtime; redness and a flushed, slightly textured look are normal afterward.
- Wear comfortable clothing and plan a quieter day after your appointment if you can.
Afterward, care for your skin
- Cleanse gently and avoid makeup for the period your provider recommends, often about 24 hours.
- Expect redness, warmth, and minor swelling for a day or two as your skin recovers.
- Avoid heat, sweat, saunas, and strenuous exercise for about 24 to 48 hours.
- Use a gentle moisturizer and daily broad-spectrum SPF, and avoid picking or exfoliating the skin.
Do
- Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and a calm skin barrier.
- Protect your skin from the sun before and after your appointment.
- Plan a quieter day or two afterward for gentle recovery.
- Follow the specific pre and post instructions your provider gives you.
Don’t
- Do not come in with an active tan, sunburn, or irritated skin.
- Do not use retinoids or strong actives right before treatment unless your provider approves.
- Do not pick, scrub, or exfoliate your skin while it is healing.
This is general guidance. Always follow the specific pre- and post-treatment instructions your UDERMA provider gives you for your treatment and skin.
